Venus to face Lucic-Baroni in Quebec final

Quebec City, QC (SportsNetwork.com) – Former world No. 1 Venus Williams and Mirjana Lucic-Baroni will square off in Sunday’s final contest at the Coupe Banque Nationale after both posted semifinal victories.

Williams took down American counterpart and four seed Shelby Rogers easily in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to win the first-ever meeting between the players in a neat 1 hour, 21 minutes.

The 34-year-old native of southern California will be looking for her 46th career title and second this year after winning in Dubai back in February.

Earlier in the day, 32-year-old Croatian underdog Lucic-Baroni worked for 2 hours, 23 minutes to knock off German fifth-seed Julia Goerges 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

Lucic-Baroni seeks her first championship of 2014 and first since taking the Croatian Bol Ladies Open in May of 1998.

The 2014 Quebec champion will earn $43,000.
